when to use the Custom Column View Window and when to customize the Noun Summary Window
The Custom Column View Window (CCVW) displays information in rows and columns.
Each row represents a noun, and each column represents information related to that noun.
The Custom Column View Window

For example, the picture above shows the Custom Column View Window (CCVW) displaying data about organizations.
You can customize the CCVW to display any type of information you choose.
In this picture, each row represents an organization, and each column represents some information related to that organization (i.e. address 1, address2, city, etc.).
The CCVW works well for this type of information, since each organization has one city, one state, etc.
For information where there will be multiple values per noun, you'll want to customize the Noun Summary Window by adding an XML template to it.
