2.5.4 - Menus - Collections - Find the Difference Between Two Collections
Finds nouns that are members of one collection and not another.
What is a collection?
MindModel allows you to group any number of nouns together into a collection.
Sometimes a collection will contain nouns that are all of one type. Sometimes they will contain nouns of different types.
How do I create a collection?
To create a collection, use the "Add a Collection" command in the Collections Menu.
In addition, there are many other MindModel commands that you can use to create collections. Collections are nouns, so almost any MindModel command that creates nouns can be used to create collections.
How do I add members to a collection?
There are many ways to add members to collections.
Let's call the noun you want to add to the collection the "target noun".
One way to add members to a collection is to use the "Add to Collection" item in the MindModel Toolbar.
Follow these steps:
1) Select the target noun in the Nouns List of the Model Window.
2) Click the "Add to Collection" item in the MindModel Toolbar.
3) Choose the name of the collection from the drop-down menu.
How do I find the difference between two collections?
Let's work through an example, so you can see how this command works.
Remember that the purpose of this command is to find nouns that are a member of one collection, but are not members of another collection.
Follow these steps:
1) Open the "AcmeTech" sample model.
Use the "Open Model" command in the File Menu.
The sample models are located in: C:\Program Files\MindModel\Sample Models.
2) Choose the "Find Members of a Collection" command in the Collections Menu.
Select the "people: employee list" collection and click OK.
MindModel will fill the Nouns List of the Model Window with the 38 people that are members of the "people: employee list" collection.
3) Choose the "Find Members of a Collection" command in the Collections Menu.
Select the "people: bizdev qualified" collection and click OK.
MindModel will fill the Nouns List of the Model Window with the 4 people that are members of the "people: bizdev qualified" collection.
So we know that there are 38 employees in the model, and 4 bizdev qualified people in the model.
Our goal is to find the difference between these two collections, i.e. the employees that are not bizdev qualified.
4) Choose "Find the Difference Between Two Collections" from the Collections Menu.
MindModel will bring up a dialog explaining how the command works.
Click OK in this dialog.
5) MindModel will bring up a dialog asking you to choose a collection.
This first collection is the collection from which the second collection will be subtracted.
Choose the "people: employee list" collection" from the drop-down, then click OK.
6) MindModel will bring up a dialog asking you to choose another collection.
This second collection is the collection which will be subtracted from the first.
Choose the "people: bizdev qualified" collection" from the drop-down, then click OK.
7) MindModel will fill the Nouns List with 34 people.
These 34 people are the 34 non bizdev qualified people in the model.
MindModel subtracted the 4 bizdev qualified people from the 38 employees and came up with a list of 34 people.
