2.1.6 - Menus - File - Import Bookmarks from Internet Explorer

This feature allows you to import bookmarks you've exported from Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE).

When MindModel imports bookmarks from IE, the websites are saved as "web site" nouns in MindModel, and the folders are saved as "collection" nouns in MindModel.

Folders within folders in IE are saved as collections that are members of collections in MindModel.

Follow these steps to import bookmarks:

1) Open Internet Explorer.

2) Export your bookmarks from Internet Explorer (IE) to an HTML file.

In IE version 6.0, you begin by choosing "Import and Export..." from the File menu.

Follow these steps in the IE import/export wizard:

a) Export favorites. Next.

b) Choose which items you want to export. Next.

c) Choose "Export to a file or address". Specify the file location. Next.

d) Finish.

IE will then store your bookmarks in the HTML file you specified.

NOTE: If you have another version of IE, consult the IE help file for instructions on exporting bookmarks.

3) Choose "Import Bookmarks from Internet Explorer" from the File Menu in MindModel.

4) Click OK.

5) Choose the file you created in step #2 (above).

Once you've chosen a file to import, MindModel shows you the following dialog:

MINDMODEL00000080.gif

When MindModel imports bookmarks from IE, the websites are saved as "web site" nouns in MindModel, and the folders are saved as "collection" nouns in MindModel.

If your model already contains a large number of collections, you might have some trouble finding these new collections, and separating them from your other collections.

This dialog helps you solve this problem.

If you enter a phrase in the entry area at the bottom of the dialog, MindModel will prefix each of these new collections with the phrase you enter.

For example, if you enter "IE folder: " (without the quotes) MindModel might create collections named:

IE Folder: business

IE Folder: personal

IE Folder: most recent

if you had folders in IE named "business", "personal" and "most recent".

If you don't want to use this prefix feature, just leave the entry area blank and click OK.

Otherwise, enter a prefix in the entry area and click OK.

If you don't want to import bookmarks, click Cancel.

After you click OK, MindModel will import the bookmarks from the file you chose.

When MindModel has finished importing bookmarks, you can browse them by finding all collections (double-click on "collections" in the Noun Types Window) or by finding all web sites.
