2.1.18 - Menus - File - Export All Statements in the Model to Excel
Exports all the statements in the current model to Microsoft Excel.
NOTE: You must have Excel installed on your computer to use this command.
The format of the Excel spreadsheet produced by this command is that same as the spreadsheets produced by the "File Menu: Export Statements in the Statements List to Excel" command.
To use this command, simply choose "Export All Statements in the Model to Excel" from the File menu in MindModel.
MindModel will open Excel automatically, and create a spreadsheet containing all the statements from the model.
There are many uses for this command.
Merging Two Models
This command can be used to merge the contents of two models into one.
First, use this command to export all the statements in the first model to Excel.
Then open the second model.
Next use the "File Menu: Import Statements from Excel by Row" command to import the statements from the first model into the second model.
Search and Replace
This command can also be used to search and replace any items in a model.
First, use this command to export all the statements in the first model to Excel.
Then use Excel's search and replace features to make any changes you wish to make to the model.
You can use Excel's sorting features to group similar statements. If you do sort the spreadsheet in Excel, make sure you select all the columns first (including any that may contain prepositional phrases) so that you don't mix up the data.
NOTE: Make sure that the changes you make to the spreadsheet don't violate MindModel's rules for standard noun types, verbs, and statement types. If there are any problems in this area, MindModel will display a specific error message when you import the statements from Excel.
Once you've made the necessary changes to the spreadsheet, click back to MindModel and open a new model (using the "File Menu: New Model" command).
Import the spreadsheet into the new model, using the "File Menu: Import Statements from Excel by Row" command.
Keep your old model as a backup. Use the new model.
Backup
It's a good idea to use this command every once in a while to create a backup of your model.
While we do our best to make the MindModel software error-free, the model files you create are still susceptible to all the problems that can occur with PC files.
Many people ask how often they need to make backup copies of their models. One rule of thumb is to consider how much data you're willing to lose, and use that time period as a guideline. If you're willing to lose one month's data, back up once every month.
If possible, store these backup files on stable media (writable cd's, Zip disks, etc.) and keep them in a different location than your computer, preferably in a different building.
