2.3 - Menus - Nouns Menu

The Nouns Menu contains commands which work with the nouns in the Nouns List of the current Model Window.

The picture above shows eighteen menu items, each corresponding to a command in the Nouns Menu. In this picture, all of the menu items are enabled, meaning that they are ready to be clicked.

Sometimes when you're using MindModel, you will notice that all except for the last menu item ("Get Help with This Menu") are disabled, meaning that they appear grayed out, and can't be clicked.

At these times, the menu will look like this:

Why does MindModel disable the menu items sometimes?

MindModel decides whether or not to disable items in the Nouns Menu depending on whether or not there is currently a noun selected in the Nouns List of the current Model Window.

If no Model Windows are open, the items will be disabled. If a Model Window is open, but no nouns are selected in the Nouns List, the items will be disabled. If the frontmost window in MindModel is not a Model Window, the items will be disabled.

If the frontmost window in MindModel is a Model Window, and a noun in the Nouns List is selected, the items will be enabled.

Power-User Tip: The Nouns Menu appears in the menu bar at the top of the MindModel screen. This is usually where you will go to use the Nouns Menu. If you prefer, you can bring up the Nouns Menu by right-clicking a noun in the Nouns List of the Model Window.

Also note that some of the Nouns Menu items change depending on which noun is selected. If you select "John Doe" the second-to-last menu item will read "Edit 'John Doe'". If you select "Jane Lopez" the item will read "Edit 'Jane Lopez'".

What are those little black arrows on the right side of the menu?

Those little black arrows indicate that there are sub-menus associated with that menu item.

So clicking on one of the arrows displays additional choices for that menu item.

For example, clicking on the arrow to the right of "Find Statements" displays three sub-menus:

Find Statements

for (Selected Noun)

for All Nouns in the List

for All Nouns in the Model

Click one of the Nouns Menu items below for a description of the command associated with that item.
