1.6.3 - Windows - Combined Queries Window - Combined Query Commands

This section describes the "Combined Query Commands" area of the Combined Queries Window (CQW).

The "Combined Query Commands" Area

As described in a previous section, the Combined Queries Window (CQW) allows you to create queries based on other queries.

Queries are descriptions of the nouns or statements you want to find.

For example, you may want to find all the people who live in California, or all the doctors in your model.

There are two ways you can use the CQW.

1) Create a query, but don't save it.

There will be times when you'll open the CQW, create a query by choosing items in the scrolling lists and other items, and run the query.

MindModel will fill the Nouns List or the Statements List of the Model Window with the items you wanted to find.

Since you're done with the CQW, you'll close it, and continue working in the Model Window.

2) Create a query, and save it for later use.

There will be other times when you'll want to open the CQW, create a query, and save the query for later use.

There are two reasons why you may want to save the query.

a) So you can use the "Queries Menu: Run Query" command to run the command at some time in the future.

b) So you can create combined queries based on a combination of this query and other queries.

The Simple Query Window creates simple queries.

The Combined Query Window allows you to combine simple queries with other simple queries (or other combined queries) to produce new combined queries.

For example, you could use the Simple Query Window (SQW) to create a query that found all the doctors in your model.

Then you could use the SQW to create a query that found all the people in California in your model.

Then you could use the Combined Queries Window (CQW) to combine those two simple queries, and produce a new, combined query that found all the doctors in California.

So what do the three buttons in the "Combined Query Commands Area" do?

The three buttons allow you to create new queries, load them from your model into the CQW, and save them from the CQW into the model. In effect, the buttons allow you to manage queries by name, and save them for later use.

New Button

The New button clears the Combined Queries Window (CQW).

Click this button when you've used the Load Button or Save Button to fill the CQW with a named query, and you want to create another query with a different name.

Load Button

The Load Button allows you to load the CQW with a query you've saved using the Save Query Button.

Save Button

The Save Button allows you to save the current contents of the CQW under a name that you choose.

Once you've saved a query, you can use the Load Query button to load the query back into the CQW.

Once you've saved a query, you can also use the "Queries Menu: Run Query" command to run the query. You don't have to open the CQW to use the "Queries Menu: Run Query" command.
