1.5.2 - Windows - Simple Query Window - Additional Options

This section describes the additional options that the Simple Query Window (SQW) provides.

The following options are described in this section:

Specify Object Options Area

Specify Prep Phrase Button

Help Button

"Switch to Combined Queries Window" Button

The "Specify Object Options" Area

The "Specify Object Options" area, pictured above, gives you additional choices when specifying the objects of the statements you are trying to find.

If you select "use selection in list", as pictured above, the SQW uses the selection in the "Object" list to specify the objects of the statements to be found.

Another way to say this is to say that, if you choose "use selection in list", the SQW ignores the "Specify Object Options" area, and uses the "Object" list instead.

If you choose "use this formula:", as pictured here:

In this case, MindModel displays the "Edit Formula" button you see in the picture above.

This button displays the "Edit Formula" dialog, which gives you additional options in specifying which statements to find.

The Edit Formula Dialog

For example, this dialog allows you to specify statements whose objects contain the word "widget".

To do so, you would select the "contains" option, and type "widget" (without the quotes) in the area to the right of the contains option.

The Specify Prep Phrase Button

Clicking the "Specify Prep Phrase" button displays the Specify Prep Phrase dialog:

The Specify a Prepositional Phrase Dialog

This dialog allows you to specify a prepositional phrase the occurs in the statements you want to find.

NOTE: If you have used the "Specify Prep Phrase" button to specify a prepositional phrase before opening this dialog, you will see a "Clear Prep Phrase" button in this dialog. This button allows you to clear the previously-specified prep phrase. If you haven't specified one, you will not see the "Clear Prep Phrase" button.

The Help Button

Clicking the "Help" button in the Simple Query Window (SQW) opens the MindModel help file to the section on the SQW.

The Switch to Combined Queries Window Button

Clicking the "Switch to Combined Queries Window" button in the SQW closes the SQW and opens the Combined Queries Window.

Once you get used to using the Simple Query Window, you'll find that you often switch between the Simple Queries Window and the Combined Queries Window. This button will save you time when doing so.
