3.4 - Printing
In this section we will print all the statements related to a particular person in a model. You can use the same technique to print all the statements about any noun (organization, skill, web site, etc.).
Open the Model
Choose "Open Model" from the File menu in MindModel.
MindModel will display a dialog allowing you to specify which model you want to open.
By default, this dialog will point to the Sample Models folder in the MindModel folder.
This folder will usually be located at: C:\Program Files\MindModel\Sample Models. If you installed MindModel somewhere other than C:\Program Files, your MindModel folder will be where you put it, and the Sample Models folder will be in the MindModel folder.
Open the sample model called "AcmeTech.min".
MindModel will open a Model Window (the big window on the right-hand side of the screen) for the AcmeTech model.
The Nouns List (at the top of the Model Window) will fill with all the people in the model.
Find the Person
We want to find a specific person, so we need to tell MindModel that person's name.
If you look in the upper right-hand corner of the Model Window, you will see the Find Nouns Area.
To the right of the word "Find:" you will see a drop-down menu. This menu is already set to "people" so we can leave this menu as-is for now. If you wanted to find some other type of noun, you would select another item from this menu.
To the right of the drop-down menu is the Find Field. You can use this field to enter any part of the name of the noun you want to find. We want to find "Pamela Klein" so, to save some time, just enter "klein" in the Find Field. (Don't enter the quotes. Just enter the five letters of the name.)
Hit the Return key (on the keyboard) or click the Go button to the right of the Find Field to tell MindModel to find a person whose name contains "Klein".
MindModel finds all the people whose names contain "klein" which in this case is one person: Pamela Klein.
There are two types of information in MindModel: nouns and statements. Nouns are people, places, things, etc. Statements are facts about those people, places, things, etc. There are two big lists in the Model Window: the Nouns List and the Statements List. Since "Pamela Klein" is a noun, MindModel places her in the Nouns List.
Remember, our goal is to print all the statements related to Pamela Klein.
Find All Statements for the Person
Double-click on "Pamela Klein" in the Nouns List to tell MindModel to fill the Statements List with all the statements about Pamela Klein. Make sure you double-click directly on the name "Pamela Klein", not on the column headers above the name or the blank space below the name.
Print the Statements
Now that the Statements List contains all the statements for Pamela Klein, all you have to do is choose "Print" from the File menu.
MindModel displays a dialog asking which list you would like to print: Nouns or Statements.
Click the Statements button.
MindModel prints the contents of the Statements List.
If you'd like to email this information to someone, you can choose "Print to HTML File..." from the File menu instead of "Print". This command allows you to create an HTML file (web page) containing the displayed statements. You can email this file to someone, or post it to a web server as a web page.
